Step 1:

  • Use a pencil to mark the hole locations on a wood plank.

  • (Make sure you leave about 2” between the flower pot holes, and about 1” between the rope holes and edge of the board)

 

Step 2:

  • Cut the boards

 

Step 3:

  • Drill holes. These small holes will serve as guides for the hole saw.

 

Step 4:

  • Cut holes for pots

Step 5:

  • Drill small holes on corner for rope

  • It is important to have a tight fit for the rope so that the zip ties create a stopper to keep the boards from sliding.

 

Step 6:

  • Sand the boards

 

Step 7:

  • String the boards together

  • Thread the rope through the holes and tie a knot at the bottom.

 

Step 8:

  • Hang the garden.  Make sure the boards are level.

 

Step 9:

  • Using zip ties, secure the boards by tying under the rope holes.

  • Add 2 to 3 tight zip ties underneath each rope hole to make sure the boards won’t slide under the weight of the potted plants.

 

Step 10:

  • Place the potted plants into the holes.

This is the traditional method to making a vertical garden that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
